One of the highlights of last week’s National Women’s Bicycling Summit was the touching and often hilarious video presentation of Emily Finch, subject of the all-time highest-traffic story over on BikePortland (yes, this one was even bigger than the one about the beer bike that broke the site when I was an editor there).
Here’s a bit more of the back story behind the video, Finch’s appearance at the summit, and how this sudden wave of publicity has activated her.
Finch’s video reminds me of Canadian artist and activist Franke James’ powerful visual essay about selling her SUV and the phrase from it that has stuck in my head since I first read it in 2007: “Do the hardest thing first.”
