Since it came out last August, Kelli Refer’s zine Pedal, Stretch, Breathe: The Yoga of Bicycling has been a runaway bestseller. We talked about doing a second edition right away, not realizing how soon it would be needed.
And sure enough, the original is nearly out of print (any day now).
The good news is that there’s a new edition on the way and it’ll be extra great, taking reader feedback into account and expanding on the practical information in the original by adding new poses, a guide to muscles and what bicycling does to them that yoga can help mitigate, and a new section on the core tenets of yoga philosophy (if that sounds weird to you, think of it as a practical guide to the mental game of cycling: getting more out of your rides and avoiding road rage).
Kelli is hard at work writing and drawing the new pages — the original 44 page zine is being expanded to a 96 page book, with a spine — thats’s a very big deal in the micro-publishing world of Elly Blue / Taking the Lane. This is all set to be on schedule and a bigger hit than the first time around. We just need to make that Kickstarter goal. We’re doing extremely well so far but there’s a ways to go.
Please pitch in, snag yourself a book, and take a deep breath and stretch your shoulders before you go for a ride in whatever weather the world is bringing you today. Thank you!
